OVERVIEW
Cubism was formed by two men Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque in Paris
between the time of 1907 and 1914. Their paintings became exceptionally famous
within a short amount of time. From these two great painters the visual art style
became one of the most prominent styles of the early twentieth century which
was also the first abstract style of modern art. A French art critic Louis Vauxcelles
coined the term Cubism after seeing Braque’s paintings in 1908 at L'Estaque in
emulation of Cézanne. Their paintings were influenced by other art styles/cultures,
mostly from African art. Later on cubism was the modern art style that influenced
other styles like Futurism, Orphism, Vorticism, Suprematism, Constructivism and
Expressionism, these all happened in other countries.
